Marqueece Harris-Dawson, LA City Council President and Eighth District Representative, has spent over 20 years in community activism and public service. A South LA native and Morehouse graduate, his leadership has driven affordable housing, public safety, and economic equity. Since joining the Council in 2015, he co-authored Proposition HHH, securing $1.2 billion for housing, and championed initiatives like the Community Safety Partnership and pandemic relief programs. He transformed a Metro project into a public art museum celebrating Black culture. As Chair of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee, he oversees zoning, development, and code enforcement, shaping LA’s growth.
